The Cascades
This is one of the first waterfalls/cascades you encounter on your way into Yosemite using hwy 120. Warm spring temperatures really bring these cascades to life, with the roar and mist of the fast moving snow melt. This image was shot in the late morning from the center of the bridge over the river. By using a 10 stop neutral density filter, to reduce the amount of light entering the camera, I was able to slow the shutter speed to 6 seconds and give the water a nice magical blur. Even from the distance of the bridge, the mist from the falls would blow by, creating a unique play between the light and shadows as well as the blur and sharpness.
